Morton West student, Niquan Dawson, joined the J. Sterling Morton High School District 201’s Board of Education as the first official Student School Board Member. Dawson is currently a sophomore serving several leadership roles throughout Morton West. Dawson is the Treasurer of Student Council, Chief of Staff of the Junior Statesmen of America and Secretary of Global Language.

When asked who Dawson admired most, he replied, “My mom, she is a single mother who works very hard to provide for me. I also admire all of my teachers for all of the hard work that they put in and their roles in educating their students.” Dawson wants to be a neurosurgeon when he grows up. Dawson says, “It’s not work if you’re helping others!”

Changes to the school uniform suggested by Dawson were implemented at the last Board of Education meeting on June 11, 2014.
