Galaxy Quest Could Continue On Amazon

Galaxy-Quest

The cult sci-fi hit from the 90s has been green-lit for development on Amazon’s Prime TV platform.

“By Grabthar’s hammer, by the suns of Worvan, you shall be avenged.”

Galaxy Quest has been avenged - or green-lit - for development on Amazon Prime TV, Entertainment Weekly reports. The 1999 cult hit starring Tim Allen, Signourney Weaver and Alan Rickman could ironically become a series on the shipping giant’s Internet TV platform.

The latest movie-turned-series project will be developed by Paramount Television, the small-screen arm of the original movie’s studio. Robert Gordon, one of the film’s writers, is slated to adapt his project for Amazon and Dean Parisot will move from director to producer alongside original producer Mark Johnson and Johnson’s business partner Melissa Bernstein.

No pilot or series has been ordered, so there is no word on when - or if - the series will air. Neither is it known if the original cast of Allen, Weaver, Rickman, Sam Rockwell or Justin Long will appear. It is unlikely at this stage Allen will appear considering his work with Last Man Standing.

The original film was a satire on the Star Trek craze, with the original cast of the fictional TV show having to attend conventions before they are kidnapped by a race of aliens who believe the show to be real. After saving the day, the cast returns to Earth and, renewed by their efforts, revives the cancelled television series.

If Galaxy Quest becomes a series, then it will continue the recent tradition of small screen adaptations of their film counterparts, including Rush Hour, Limitless, Minority Report, among others.
