(Berwyn/Cicero, Ill) – Two more promotional posters for the 2015 season have been released by the Morton Athletics Department. The 11″ x 17″ full-color posters feature Mustang seniors on the girls and boys basketball squads from J. Sterling Morton High School. The posters are the latest in the new series initiated last year with Morton’s football and boys soccer teams.
Students in the Morton West Graphic Arts classes designed and printed the posters under the direction of teacher Mike Battistoni. After students developed first drafts, they voted on each other’s designs and chose the Boys Basketball poster created by Christian Chavez (Morton West, Class of 2015). “They said it was really clean and appealing,” Chavez said of the feedback he received.
It took Chavez about four weeks to produce the final proof before hundreds of copies were printed at Morton West. “Being under pressure, it showed me how a real job would be,” Chavez said. After graduating in June, Chavez plans to continue his education with an eye on a career in graphic design.
Evelyn Garcia (Morton West, Class of 2015) worked on the design that led to the poster for the 2015 Girls Basketball team. “I want to get into graphic design now that I did this [poster]. I’d like to get into drawing backgrounds for video games and incorporate this experience,” Garcia said.
Boys Basketball Head Coach Tony Martinucci said the varsity seniors were enthusiastic about the team’s inclusion in the poster program during the photo shoot. “They couldn’t stop talking about it all day,” Martinucci said with a chuckle. Martinucci’s seniors include Harvard University recruit Weisner Perez (Morton West, Class of 2015), who participated in international competition with the Dominican Republic National Basketball team in the summer of 2014.
The poster series will continue with a 2015 Varsity Girls Soccer team poster and two others for the 2015 Varsity Softball and Baseball teams.
