Leadership Changes at J. Sterling Morton High School District 201

(Cicero, IL) – It never stops to amaze me how fast summers fly by. I hope that your summer was restful, rewarding and allowed for personal renewal.  I was able to briefly visit my children and my first grandchild this summer, and I, like you, wished that time would slow down for those precious moments.

As a new school year begins, we all bring excitement to once again start anew with hopes for our students and the promises that the new school term holds.

District 201 will see changes in leadership throughout the district for the 2014-2015 school year. We will be welcoming new faces to the district—as well as congratulating familiar faces on new positions.

The Morton East Campus will welcome back Mr. Jose Gamboa as its new building principal. I’m honored to have witnessed his growth as an educational leader here at District 201. His continuous dedication to the educational advancement of students first started in his very own classroom, teaching History. Since then, Mr. Gamboa has revamped a large number of student activities while instilling community pride. He has also implemented the C.A.R.E. system at two campuses and aided in the expansion of our Advanced Placement program to increase college opportunities for students. He previously held the position of assistant principal, a position Mr. Randall Bogardt will be filling.

Former Morton West Assistant Principal Joshua McMahon will experience a similar transition. This fall students and staff will welcome him back as their new principal. His ongoing commitment to Morton West earned him the position after Principal Gunty’s retirement. Over the past three years, Mr. McMahon successfully ran the Freshmen Academy at Morton West where he focused on the educational growth of freshmen students.  I admire his dedication to the community and its students, a dedication that goes beyond the walls of West. Throughout the years he has collaborated with surrounding middle schools that send their 8th grade graduates to Morton West. His former assistant principal position will be filled by former dean of students Mr. Michael Battle. His former position will be filled by Norberto Izquierdo who will be transferring from the Freshman Center.

Sincerely,
