Congressman Foster Announces Winner Of 11th District Congressional Art Competition

Aurora, IL – At a reception at the Pierce Art & History Center in Aurora, Congressman Bill Foster announced the winners of the 11th District Congressional Art Competition.  Winners were selected by a panel of local art experts. Over 60 art pieces were submitted by high school students, grades 9-12.

The winners included:

First Place – “Lost” by Maria Padilla, Downers Grove South High School

Second Place – “Delicate Things” by Jessica Stacko, Downers Grove South High School

Third Place – “Vanity” by  Rebekah Salazar, Joliet West High School

Fourth Place – “Melon” by Jessica Holt, Oswego High School

“I’m proud of all the students who displayed their passion and creativity in this year’s Congressional Art Competition,” said Foster. “I am pleased to showcase the talents and imagination of our students and am proud to bring their work to the halls of Congress.”

Participating high schools included Aurora Christian, Downers Grove North, Downers Grove South, East Aurora, Joliet Central, Joliet West, Naperville Central, Naperville North, Oswego and Rosary.

The U.S. House of Representatives has been spotlighting the nation’s best student artists with an annual art competition since 1982.  The winner will receive two round-trip tickets to Washington, D.C. for the unveiling of their work, which will hang in the Capitol complex for the next year.  The artwork of the runners-up will be featured in Congressman Foster’s offices.
