Two television journalists were gunned down in Virginia while on live television Wednesday morning, prompting a manhunt to find the shooter.

WDBJ-TV’s Alison Parker, 24, and her cameraman Adam Ward, 27, died shortly after a man shot Vicky Gardner, head of the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce, in the back and then turned the gun on the two journalists. WDBJ-TV said the shooting took place at about 6:45 am while Parker was in the middle of the interview.

According to the Roanoke Times, Gardner was taken to the hospital for surgery. Gardner’s condition was not immediately clear.

Video footage of the incident showed the image of a man who appears to be holding a handgun.

“We always say ‘senseless’ crime,” station general manager Jeff Marks said while announcing the pair’s death at 8:45 am. “How can this individual have robbed Alison and Adam’s families of their lives and loves?”

Virginia State Police have said investigators have found a suspect but have not yet revealed his identity and do not have him in custody.
