Most Anticipated Fall Albums

While dozens of albums are released on a weekly basis, few seasons draw more breathless anticipation than the usual fall bumper crop. Even though some of these releases may end up being pushed back, this is merely the new reality we live in, as other surprise albums could also drop out of the clear blue sky.

Young Thug: Hy!£UN35

Hip hop’s latest curio has done a masterful job of building anticipation for his proper debut, having released a well-received “retail mixtape” earlier in the year, entitled Barter 6 (a nod to his love for his idol Lil Wayne, as well as his Blood status). Few know what to expect from Thug’s proper album and his claims that his recording process was at least partially inspired by the work of J Cole and Kendrick Lamar only serve to further stoke the flames of anticipation.

Disclosure: Caracal

Scheduled for release in November, this electronic duo of brothers has risen from critical darlings to front stage attractions. Their last album spawned the smash hit single “Latch,” which just so happened to launch Sam Smith’s career into the stratosphere. Their production and instrumentation will serve as the backdrop for a number of A list guests, with The Weeknd, Miguel and Lorde scheduled to make appearances on this eagerly awaited second full-length.

Adele: 25

Adele’s 21 was a smash hit album in a way that precious few are anymore, spawning multiple Top 10 hits, remaining on the charts for years after its release and earning a diamond certification from the RIAA. It managed to become the top selling album of 2012, despite having been released in 2011. Adele has since become a mother, had vocal cord surgery and collaborated with Danger Mouse, so she will have a variety of topics to weigh in on as she soundtracks our fall and winter drives and get togethers.

Drake: Views From The 6

The Canadian rapper/singer has been scarce on the details of this album and very little music has surfaced, save for a demo version of a Beyonce collaboration. Fresh off his annihilation of rival Meek Mill in one of the year’s most entertaining battles and a platinum mixtape of more dark, brooding trap influenced music, it will be interesting to see which direction Drake takes the album. “Hotline Bling”, his current Top 5 smash, sounds much different from the Drake of old and augurs well for the upcoming long player.

Radiohead: TBA

With all due respect to Kanye West’s SWISH and Frank Ocean’s Boys Don’t Cry (two albums which seem to have been pushed back into unforeseen limbo), Radiohead’s yet to be titled set is the most anticipated in all of music. Their drummer has teased a fall release for the set and there is no telling what direction they may go, which is certainly part of the fun.
