Berwyn/Cicero, IL – The Morton Varsity Softball and Baseball teams recognized their graduating seniors with two promotional posters photographed, designed and printed by fellow high school students. Six Mustang softball players and 11 baseball players, along with the schedules, are featured on the 11″ x 17″ full-color posters released for the 2015 season.
The senior Varsity Softball players are Delilah Ayala, Sam Ghuneim, Lupe Heredia, Alyssa Lacour, Kassie Munoz and Alissa Reynolds.
The senior Varsity Baseball players are Michael Beddingfield, Roger Blanco, Gabriel Estrada, Eric Figueroa, David Fregoso, Luis Hernandez, Michael Kadela, Stephen La, Ivan Moreno, Alex Paez and Luis Rivera.
The two posters are the latest in a new, award-winning series that spotlighted several of Morton’s athletic and activities programs. Students in the Morton West Graphic Arts program designed and printed the posters under the direction of teacher Mike Battistoni. Schedule posters were entered into high school design competitions hosted by Triton College and Harper College. Morton students won a First Place and two Second Place awards for their work.
The designer of the softball poster, Idesis Ruiz (Morton West, Class of 2016) said, “This was a challenge, but with every challenge we learn something new and improve.”
Anthony Valdovinios (Morton West, Class of 2016) said he was “very excited” about the opportunity to design the baseball poster. “Growing up I played baseball, so I knew that this poster would have meaning to it.” The designing process had “a lot of ups and downs, but in the end it all came together and I was able to succeed,” Valdovinios said.
“This is a great example of the ʻreal world’ opportunities Morton provides for students to learn skills they can display both in the school and out in our community,” Supt. Mike Kuzniewski said. “The posters benefit both our graphic arts and sports programs. We’re very proud of their outstanding work.”
This year’s poster series will conclude with a 2015 Varsity Girls Soccer team poster.
