State Rep. Lisa Hernandez recognized five students from local schools who participated in the 6th annual district-wide essay contest in commemoration of Children’s Dental Health month at her office on Saturday April 26.
Hernandez was joined by Dr. Jorge Zehak from the Chicago Dental Society and Monil Shah from Central Dental Associates will also presented the awards. Together, awards were presented to five students including three from intermediate school grades and three from junior high school grades all located in the 23rd and 24th House Districts and in the 12th Senate District.
The winners are: 1st Place Winner Ezzieh Hassan 4th Grade; 2nd Place Winner Lily Alvarez 5th Grade; 3rd Place Winner Samantha Brito 5th Grade; 1st Place Winner Ithzel Salcedo 7th Grade; and, 2nd Place Winner Jessica Cristobal 7th Grade.
“It was very exciting to receive the essays. All of the entries were well done and very professional addressing the importance of dental health, especially for young people,” Hernandez said.
The contest was also co-sponsored by State Rep. Michael Zalewski and State Senator Steven Landek.
The two First Place winners received computers, while the two Second Place winners received Tablet Computers. The Third Place winner received school supplies.
The presentations were made during the ceremonies hosted at Hernandez’s legislative offices at 2137 S. Lombard Avenue (Suite 205).
The five winners were selected from essay submissions received from more than 100 students from intermediate elementary (4-6) grades and junior high (7-8 grade) students.
